DescriptionTall, ovoid, grey stoneware jug with cobalt blue decoration. The jug has a flat base and gently swelling sides that taper at the shoulder to form a narrow neck and reeded rim. A pulled strap handle connects the rim with the shoulder of the jug. Opposite the handle, an impressed mark consists of a scalloped line above "STEDMAN/ SEYMOUR/ NEW HAVEN". The word "New Haven" is in italics. Both ends of the handle and the mark are hand-painted with small amounts of cobalt blue. There are several imperfections in the surface of the stoneware. Thickly applied portions of the glaze to the right of the mark are a light brown, and there are two bumps in the stoneware to the lower left of the mark. A chip in the stoneware is also located to the lower left of the mark. An old cork is still wedged tightly into the rim.
