DescriptionRound stoneware pitcher with a mottled, translucent brown glaze, a type of ceramic known as Rockingham ware. The pitcher has a round foot and sides that swell gently then narrow at the shoulder and neck to form the rim. At one side, the rim swells forward to form a spout. Opposite the spout, a molded and applied handle connects the rim and shoulder of the pitcher. The sides of the pitcher are decorated with raised motifs showing hunting game, birds and rabbit specifically, hanging from the branch of a tree. Below, a very small dog looks on. These raised hunting motifs appear on a textured background that imitates the bark of a tree. The same motif appears twice on the pitcher, once on each side. There is crazing over all the surfaces of the pitcher, and a relatively large chip in the rim of the spout. There is one chip in the foot as well.

MarkingsThere is one mark and one label on the bottom of the pitcher. The mark is impressed, and reads, "S RISLEY/ NORWICH/ 2". The small, rectangular, white label has "NCB/ 2/1/60" hand-written in blue pen.On View
