DescriptionPear-shaped, grey stoneware cream pitcher with a dull matte exterior and shiny glazed interior, a type of stoneware known as drab ware. The cream pitcher has an oval foot. The spout is formed to look like a shell, and the handle is shaped like a branch with an irregular surface. Both sides of the cream pitcher have the same crisp decorative motif: a bearded face, surrounded by a cartouche. The face is flanked on either side by a tall heron. The molded relief decoration imitates the natural forms and decorative motifs of the rococo revival style, although at a later date. The inside of the cream pitcher has the remnants of a sticky red label, which has since been removed.
