DescriptionGrey stoneware lidded teapot with a dull matte exterior and shiny glazed interior, a type of stoneware known as drab ware. The pear-shaped teapot (.a) has a flaring, oval foot and relief decoration that imitates the natural forms and decorative motifs of the rococo revival style. The tip of the curved spout of the teapot is shaped like a dolphin, and the base is decorated with shells and scrolls. The handle is shaped like a branch with an irregular surface. Both sides of the teapot have the same decorative motif: a bearded face, surrounded by a scrolled cartouche. The face is flanked on either side by a tall heron. The decoration on the lid (.b) has a marine theme with raised shells, coral, and a conch shell finial. There is a small hole in the lid to allow steam to escape. There is only one small chip in the rim of the teapot.
