DescriptionWoman's straw bonnet, with pale peach and reddish-brown twill-woven silk fabric twisted over the brim. The silk is overlaid across the top and proper right side with faux flowers and leaves highlighted with silver glitter. There is a bright blue beetle nestled into the flowers on the right side. On the proper left side, the bonnet is decorated with two large, silver-toned, faceted metal beads, and a gold-toned metal ornament resembling a mechanical pencil with a tuning fork. The natural-colored straw is woven in a design resembling a picket fence, alternating with a strip of plain weave. The straw of the back (crown) of the bonnet is worked in a U-shape. The brim is four inches deep at the top of the bonnet and fits closely to the face. The edge of the bonnet is faced with gathered tan-colored silk satin, while the body of the bonnet is lined with heavily starched, loosely-woven, white cotton. The bonnet ties with three-inch-wide, tan-colored satin ribbons.
