DescriptionBlack whole-foxed, buttoned boots, with leather fox and rib-woven wool top. The boots have a high, rounded pointed toe with a decorative toe cap, and 1 1/2-inch stacked heels. The edge of the button fly is straight, and the top edge is straight, but slanted upwards towards the front of the boot. Eleven black, enameled, dome-shaped buttons close the top of the boot. The top edge of the boot and button fly are lined with black leather; the rest of the boot is lined with white twill-woven cotton. The sock lining is brown leather, with an extra pad of white felt in the heel area. The sole is shaped for the right and left foot.

Markings"La France" within a shield with rampant lions is stamped on the sole. A woven silk label of the same design, yellow on black, is sewn into the lining of the upper.NotesHistorical Note: These shoes cost about $3-$4 dollars at the time they were made.
