MarkingsThe number "14" appears inside a square on the bottom interior edge of the left side of the locket.InscribedThe front of the locket is engraved with Robert Hale Kellogg's monogram, "RHK".
The back of the locket is engraved, "Plymouth N C/ April 20, 1864/ Flag 16th/ Regiment C. V."
NotesOwner and Historical Note: Sergeant Major Robert Hale Kellogg (1844-1922) was a member of the 16th Regiment of Connecticut Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. The regiment was captured during the Battle of Plymouth in Plymouth, North Carolina, on 20 April 1864. They were imprisoned in the infamous Andersonville Prison in Andersonville, Georgia.
