DescriptionCast pewter inkstand (.a) consisting of a low rectangular box on low bun feet. The top of the inkstand is hinged lengthwise in the middle, so each side of the top pivots upward. The interior is divided in half with a long, vertical divider along the hinge. One half of the rectangular box is empty. The other half is further divided into three square compartments by two vertical dividers. The left compartment holds a cylindrical container (.b) with a square top surface with canted corners. The center of the top surface is recessed, with a small central finial surrounded by pierced holes. The center compartment is empty. The right compartment contains an aquamarine mold-blown glass ink bottle (.d) beneath a square (.c) of pewter with canted corners. The square has a large hole in the center providing access to the ink bottle opening, surrounded by four smaller holes. The inkstand is constructed of cast pewter sheets that are soldered together. The feet are cast and soldered to the underside of the inkstand. There is light tarnishing over all the surfaces of the inkstand.
