DescriptionSet of twelve rosewood inkstands shaped like barrels in the orinal two-piece box. Two of the inkstands are missing, and a third has been replaced with a barrel shaped object made with a yellow wood. Seven of the inkstands are still sealed in paper; torn paper still remains with the other inkstands. One end of each inkstand barrel unscrews, revealing a glass reservoir inside the barrel to hold ink.

The paper box is covered in white paper with a pale blue pattern. Only the portion of the box bottom that was covered by the lid retains the original color; the rest of the box has faded and discolored to a light brown. There is a green paper label affixed to one short end of the box bottom. The label reads, "1 Doz. No. 2/ ROSEWOOD/ Barrel Traveling Inkstands,/ WITH SCREW,/ MANUFACTURED BY/ S. SILLIMAN & CO./ CHESTER CONN."
