InscribedThe portrait has an old piece of paper pasted on back, on which is written, "From Mrs. Ketchum, Westport, CT. to J. Corse No. 104 5th Avenue [remainder torn]."

Note: William Ketchum was probably the uncle of the donor's grandfather. The donor said that the Mrs. Ketchum who gave the portrait was Margaret Miller Youle, daughter of Sylvanus Miller and third wife of Morris Ketchum. Katharine Katchum, Morris Ketchum's daughter by his first wife, Angeline Burr, was the wife of Israel Corse [see reverse of Bates card for genealogical chart].
