DescriptionBlown and cut colorless lead glass pitcher with an elaborate, cast sterling silver rim. The rim has an undulating edge that curves up and forward to form a spout at one side. Below this are the engraved initials "MG". The bottom of the silver mount is ornamented with a band of finely detailed, raised grapes, grape leaves, and vines. The remainder of the pitcher is glass, formed with a cylindrical body that flares at the base and forms a flat bottom. A tall, ear-shaped, ribbed handle is applied opposite the spout. The glass was cut to create a geometric pattern of elongated vertical flutes, with notch cut edges. The flared base of the pitcher is decorated with short, wide, vertical flutes; there are two sizes of short horizontal cuts in the glass between each flute. The bottom of the pitcher is cut with a radiating star pattern. There is an unknown white substance (possibly glue or remnants of silver polish) in the crevaces and the fine details of the silver rim. The silver is tarnished considerably.
