DescriptionLarge, blown and cut colorless non-lead glass decanter with stopper. The decanter (.a) has a flared lip, an inverted conical neck, low sloping shoulders, a semi-barrel-shaped body, and a flat bottom with a polished pontil mark in the center. Three thick glass rings are applied to the neck and upper shoulders. There is a band of wide vertical flutes beneath the bottom ring, and at the bottom edge of the sides of the decanter. A rectangular paper label is adhered to the side of the decanter. The yellowed paper bears the black printed words, "YRIARTE SHERRY./ FROM/ GEO. SAUNDERS & CO.,/ PARK DRUG STORE,/ 159 Asylum Street, - - HARTFORD, CONN." The top edge of the label has broken off in two small areas. The interior of the neck of the decanter was ground to receive a stopper. The bottom of the decanter has a ring of light scratches and wear.

The stopper (.b) consists of a mushroom-shaped finial above a ground tapered portion that fits into the neck of the decanter. The top of the finial is cut with eleven radiating petals.

Pontil mark: A rough place on a blown glass object where the solid metal rod, or pontil, is cracked off the object after final shaping and decoration. Pontil marks can be polished to achieve a smooth surface.
