DescriptionPair of mold-blown colorless lead glass decanters, each with a wide flared lip, a cylindrical neck, low sloping shoulders, a semi-barrel shaped body, and a shallow kick with a polished pontil mark on the bottom. Each decanter has three applied string rings on the neck. The interior of the neck of each decanter has been ground to receive a stopper (now missing). Both decanters have light scratches at the widest part of the body. Each also has a ring of light scratches and wear around the edge of the bottom. Several spots of unknown black substance, perhaps paint or dark varnish, have adhered to the bottom of each decanter, over the scratched areas.

Pontil mark: A rough place on a blown glass object where the solid metal rod, or pontil, is cracked off the object after final shaping and decoration. Pontil marks can be polished to achieve a smooth surface.
