DescriptionRound, white, earthenware plate with slip decoration beneath a clear lead glaze. The plate was decorated by trailing wide, straight bands of white slip over the clay, creating narrow stripes between each band of slip. A central group of bands were combed to create a wavy pattern. Then, the clay was draped over a rounded mold to give it its shape, before tooling the edge with a roulette wheel. The top surface of the plate is glazed, which gives the white slip a yellow appearance; the bottom is left unglazed.
There is a lengthy crack running from the rim toward the center of the plate, with a shorter crack immediately to the right. The glazed top surface of the plate is crazed. There is one chip in the slip near the rim. The bottom of the plate has discolored to a light brown.
