DescriptionLarge, round redware plate with slip decoration beneath a lead glaze. The plate was formed by trailing white slip over the clay to form five rows of decoration. At either end, the slip is trailed in an abstract floral or leaf design. The second and fourth row is a triple undulating line. The middle row has two of the same abstract floral or leaf shapes found at either end of the decoration. The clay was draped over a rounded mold to give it its shape, before tooling the edge with a roulette wheel. The top surface of the plate is glazed, which gives the white slip a yellow appearance; the bottom is left unglazed.

The plate shows significant wear, especially to the glaze in the center. The glaze has crazed on all areas of the plate. Multiple small areas of the slip decoration have flaked away from the center of the plate; the redware below is revealed, some of which has accumulated dirt. There are four small chips in the rim of the plate. The bottom of the plate has darkened somewhat. A significant crack runs from the rim to the center of the plate. It was repaired using five metal staples that grip the ceramic on both sides of the crack, on the bottom of the plate.
