MarkingsA yellowed paper label is affixed to the center of the underside of the stand. Hand-written in green ink is, "Made by H B Hubbell Sr. from old/ pulpit owned & used by Rev. Geo/ Gubbell when pulpit often the/ property of the minister. This/ one probaby used in pastorate./ One [illegible words] before. New Rochelle./ 1920 [illegible words]"Inscribed"H. B./ Hubbell/ 1940" is carved into the underside of the stand between the leg attachments.NotesHistorical Note: Harold B. Hubbell, Sr. (1886-1955), of New Rochelle, New York, made this stand from the remains of the pulpit used by his grandfather, Reverend George Albert Hubbell (1824-1903). Reverend Hubbell was a Methodist minister and a pastor at Meriden, Waterbury, Middletown, Birmingham, Bridgeport, and New Haven, Connecticut, and in New York City and Brooklyn, New York.
