DescriptionBaluster-shaped, fluted pitcher made of buff-colored stoneware with a translucent, dark brown glaze, a type of ceramic known as Rockingham ware. The pitcher has a ribbed rim and neck with a small spout to one side, a swelled lower body, and a round, inset bottom. A molded and applied handle connects the rim with the body of the pitcher. Raised decoration in the shape of grapes on a vine decorates the side of the pitcher, over the fluted portions. Overall, the dark brown glaze has an uneven appearance and reveals much of the buff-colored, almost yellow, stoneware below.
There is extensive crazing over all the glazed surfaces of the pitcher; most of the crazing appears as dark lines. A group of small and large chips is located on the exterior of the edge of the spout. Glaze is also worn off many areas of the edge of the rim.
