DescriptionOvoid, three gallon, wide-mouthed, buff-colored stoneware jar with a salt glaze on the exterior and a brown slip glaze on the interior. The jar has a flat bottom and sides that gently swell then narrow to form a flat, rolled rim. There is an incised line in the stoneware about three inches below the top of the rim. Two pulled, lug handles have been applied to the jar, on opposite sides, over the incised line. On one side of the jar, between the handles and above the incised line, is an impressed mark, "SEYMOUR BROTHERS/ HARTFORD/ 3". The mark is highlighted with hand-applied cobalt blue decoration, the same material used to form a design below the mark. The design consists of a circle with scalloped lines that follow the circle, giving the appearance of a wreath. Blue dots are scattered outside and inside the circle, and a curved line, like an "S" on its side, is below.

There are many minor imperfections to the glaze, and the remnants of a white, rectangular sticker are adhered to the outside of the jar to the right of the mark. A small, white, oval label on the inside of the rim of the jar has the number "11271" hand-written in black ink. The label is covered with now-yellowing tape. There are several chips to the brown slip glaze on the inside of the jar.
