DescriptionLarge, round, Chinese export porcelain tea bowl with hand-painted underglaze cobalt blue decoration. The tea bowl is decorated on the outside with a Chinese landscape. The landscape consists of a willow tree with two Chinese structures to the right. There is a bridge in the foreground with smaller houses, mountains, and trees in the distance beyond a river or body of water. There are two small boats in the river, and a small figure in one of the structures. The inside of the tea bowl is decorated with a plain band of blue at the rim. Parallel darker blue lines are painted over the band of blue. Just below this are two more parallel lines, with parallel lines between them drawn at an angle. There is a small hand-painted symbol on the bottom inside of the tea bowl.
The tea bowl has broken into four large pieces, three medium pieces, three small chips and a number of small slivers of ceramic. The tea bowl broke during the Home Life Cataloging project, on 26 October 2004. Prior to breaking, there are five chips in the rim, two of which lead to a hairline crack. In total, there were three hairline cracks that began at the rim and ran over half way down the side of the tea bowl. Additional cracks were visible on the inside bottom of the tea bowl.
