DescriptionCream-colored earthenware candlestick with a clear glaze; the candlestick is in the shape of a fluted-column on a square base. The base tapers from 3 3/8 inches to two inches square, with a cavetto, fluted shape and raised leafy decorations at the corners. The base then serves as the resting place for a tall, slightly tapered, fluted column. At the top, the column widens again, where it has a raised floral decoration circling the bottom of the capital. Finally, the flared rim at the capital serves as the well where the candle would sit and the bobeche which would catch the dripping wax. Lines of gilding have been applied on the capital and base, to serve as a transition between the different elements of the shape of the candle stick. There are some light scratches or crazing running vertically up the bands of fluting on the column. One of the corners of the base has been scratched lightly. There are three chips in the glaze on the bottom of the candlestick.
