DescriptionOval, Chinese export porcelain tray with pierced rim and hand-painted underglaze cobalt blue decoration showing a Chinese landscape; the tray is a type of Chinese export porcelain known as Nankingware. The central landscape has a tree with a Chinese structure to the right. A Chinese junk floats on the river that runs through the landscape, with houses, hills, and trees in the distance. The landscape is surrounded by a series of borders, starting with a blue border made up of hexagons. This is surrounded by a field of white with another border of smaller blue hexagons. Finally, at the edge of the tray, is a border consisting of a blue field with darker lines creating a diamond pattern inside. Imperfections in the porcelain appear as black dots in the surface of the tray. There is a crack running from the rim through the pierced area to the lower right side of the landscape, and a small yellow area along the bottom edge of the landscape.
