DescriptionChinese export porcelain cream ewer with gilding and hand-painted overglaze enamels in pink, green, red, orange, and black. The cream ewer rests on a foot and has a wide spout and rim. A handle, shaped to imitate a stick, was molded and applied opposite the spout. Decoration below the spout consists of a large pink flower surrounded by smaller flowers in pink and orange, with leaves intersperced throughout. There is a border of widely spaced orange arrows on the foot, as well as a series of borders at the rim. The first is a band of orange overlaid with a scalloped orange line. This is surrounded by a thin line of black enamel, then an area of white. Finally, these are surrounded by a wavy orange line, imitating the appearance of a wave. There is a small area of gilding at the tip of the handle. Much of the enamel and gilding has worn off the cream ewer, most noticeably the line of black at the rim and the orange on the foot. Imperfections in the porcelain appear as black dots on the surface of the cream ewer.
