DescriptionOval sauceboat of buff-colored earthenware with a blue-tinted glaze, a type of ceramic known as pearlware. The sauceboat swells from the foot to the sides, before narrowing slightly to form an irregular rim. There are mold lines along the spout and opposite, below the handle. The handle was hand-made of pulled earthenware and applied to the body of the sauceboat. The only decoration consists of a raised shell motif just below the rim that was colored with hand-painted underglaze cobalt blue. The blue is applied in a straight line along the raised decoration, with short lines of blue pointing down. The sauceboat has crazing over all its surfaces and has an overall yellow color.
