DescriptionA three-quarter-length portrait of a small boy standing in an interior. He wears a short-sleeved plaid dress trimmed with lace and pantalets. On his head, he wears a military beaked cap with a plume. He has a knapsack on his back and an epaulet on his left shoulder. A rifle or musket rests on his right shoulder, and a sword is tucked into the sash around his waist. A carved marble fireplace is in the left background. A small bouquet of flowers is on the mantlepiece, which has a fringed cover. A large mirror in a gilt frame hangs above the fireplace. Drapery tied back with a cord is in the right background.
