Smith, was forced to drive all night from Baltimore as J.L. Smith said "he was going to shoot his wife in Connecticut." The driver escaped at Greenwich where Smith picked up a hostage, Anthony Marchand, 14. Marchand deflected the kidnapper's aim when police moved in for the capture.
