DescriptionComplex of industrial buildings includes several factories with smoke issuing from smokestacks. A ventilator and several chimneys are on the roofs. Signs read: "L.B. Hanks & Co." "Hartford / Iron Foundry." A man loads or unloads a horse-drawn wagon near a gate. A man holding a whip and a woman holding a parasol are in a horse-drawn carriage. A dog runs beside them. Two boys, one rolling a hoop, are at the far left. A picket fence is at the right. Pennants fly from the masts of sailing vessels that are out of sight on the Connecticut River in the background. Birds fly in the sky.

The assortment of Patterns / of all kinds, particularly Geering for Mills and Factories is extensive; embracing all the Modern Improvements. / They will have constantly on Sale, small Steam Engines, Standing Presses for Cotton and Woolen Factories, / Paper Mills & Book Binders. Lead Retorts for Paper Mills &c. Plough Castings of all kinds. Cast Iron Hubs. Pig Iron of various Scotch and American brands. Fire Bricks. Sand and Clay. They will, also, when required, furnish Millwrights. Orders are respectfully solicited and shall be punctually attended to. / Hartford, Conn., May 1."
