DescriptionAudio file of interview with K. He was interviewed by Elisa Torres-Baez on 16 July 2025.
K was interviewed as part of the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History's Community History Project discussing moments of change in his life.
Throughout this interview, K discusses how impactful music has been in his life, from helping his sibling learn English to spending a last moment with his godmother. K’s relationship with music changed when he heard a song called ‘Hopeful.’ It helped K get through tough times in school and inspired him to write his own music. The song ‘Hopeful’ also helped K express and understand his emotions, as well as understand what other people may be feeling.
K states that music provided him with a safe space when he was struggling at school and at home. Music has also helped him connect with more people now that he is in college. He has made friends who also write music, though he has not shared his music with anyone.
Music has helped K gain a deeper understanding of other art forms, such as painting and drawing. The biggest lesson that K learned from music is to be yourself rather than trying to be like everyone else.
