Désja was interviewed as part of the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History's Community History Project discussing moments of change in her life.
Desja is an illustrator who is shifting her artistic focus towards music. The moment of change she discusses in this interview is what she calls “transhibernation.” Desja describes her experience with other people judging her because of her transness and how it caused her to “hibernate.” She shares her experiences dating and becoming more social after her transhibernation. Desja also discusses going to college, dropping out, returning to college, and taking part in Pride Club. She describes the ways in which she does and does not feel safe because of how people perceive her transness. Desja’s interview concludes with her discussing how being trans has impacted the relationships in her life.

NotesSubject Note: The Connecticut Museum of Culture and History’s Community History Project (CHP) is a public-facing initiative, focused on contemporary collecting, gathering items of the recent past as well as from events happening today. This program developed community historians to identify, document, and preserve their experiences as residents of Connecticut, and to share these experiences during a series of community presentations. The project focused on the theme "Redefining Moments of Change."
