DescriptionSixth plate daguerreotype of Leverett Brainard. He is probably in his mid-20s. He is wearing a jacket, waistcoat (with a watch fob and chain visible), white shirt with a standing collar, and a tie that appears to be silk. His hair is fashioned into the distinctive mid-1850s men's style, with a puff of hair at the center of the forehead. The rest of his hair is oiled (probably with macassar) and worn slightly long. His facial hair is worn in a fringe around his cheeks and chin, with a mustache and possibly a small beard under his lower lip (although that may be a shadow).
