DescriptionHead and shoulders length portrait of Ward Cheney (1875-1900) in a military uniform. There is a pin on each side of the collar of his jacket that depicts crossed muskets, and another pin on each side that reads "U.S." Ward is wearing a Stetson style hat. The photograph has been cut in an oval shape and is mounted on a thick piece of cardstock that is gray on the front and tan on the back.

NotesDate note: Ward Cheney enlisted in the army in April of 1898 and went with his regiment to train at Camp Alger in Virginia. He departed for the Philippines in January of 1899 and died while overseas. This photograph was probably taken in the second half of 1898. Ward was shot in the leg twice while serving in the Army in the Philippines and died of shock.On View
