DescriptionView of eighteen boys standing outdoors in a single line on a lawn. They are wearing matching uniforms consisting of hats, collared shirts, jackets, and pants with a stripe down the side. The boy on the far left (Sherwood Cheney) is using both hands to hold the handle of a sword that is pointing down towards the ground. All the rest are holding guns, one end resting on the ground, except for two in the middle who are holding flags.

Inscription note: Each boy's service in the Spanish American war is listed to the right of his name. Sherwood Cheney (Captain) served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Engineer Corps. Ward Cheney served as a First Lieutenant in the Fourth Infantry, U.S. Army. William Madden was a corporal with Company G, First Connecticut Volunteer Infantry. Henry Montgomery was a private in Company F, First Connecticut Volunteer Infantry. Charles Warren was Fourth Sergeant in Company G, First Connecticut Volunteer Infantry. Seth Leslie Cheney was a corporal in Company G, First Connecticut Volunteer Infantry. Austin Cheney was a private with Battery A, First Connecticut Volunteer Artillery. Frank Pinney was an ensign on the Cruiser San Francisco while surving in the U.S. Navy. Lewis Montgomery, not pictured, was a private in Company F, First Connecticut Volunteer Infantry.
