DescriptionFour photographs depicting Cheney children at the Horace Bushnell School in South Manchester, Connecticut. In several images they are working in a victory garden.

(.142) Nine children arranged in three rows on the front steps of the Horace Bushnell School. Barbara Cheney (1904-1985) is kneeling in the back row. Sitting in the middle row are, left to right: an unidentified girl, Maribel Cheney (1905-1997), possibly Frank Dexter Cheney, Jr. (1905-1991), and Rosalie Amory Cheney (1906-1999). Sitting in the front row are, left to right: Jane Davenport Cheney (1906-1989), an unidentified girl, Alice Gay Cheney (1908-1969) and Ruth Sears Cheney (1907-1998). A few of the children are holding saws and Ruth is holding a hammer. Most of them are wearing overalls and hats.

(.143) View of ten children sitting or standing in a victory garden behind the Horace Bushnell School while Miss Blanchard (probably their teacher) supervises.

(.144) View of nine children working in the victory garden behind the Horace Bushnell School. The garden is surrounded by a wooden fence.

(.145) View of seven children clustered around the wooden fence that surrounds the victory garden at the Horace Bushnell School. They are holding hammers and saws and are either building or repairing the fence.
