DescriptionStudio group portrait of six men in Connecticut National Guard uniform arranged in two rows. Four are standing in the back and two are sitting in chairs in the front. The young man seated on the left is Second Lieutenant Philip Cheney (1878-1948). The other men are probably other officers of Company G, First Regiment of the Connecticut National Guard. They are all holiding rifles.

There is a "CT" pin on Philip's collar as well as an infantry pin depicting crossed muskets.


According to a Hartford Courant article dated April 1, 1907, Philip enlisted in Company G of the Connecticut National Guard in 1902. He was promoted to second lieutenant in January of 1904 and to captain in 1907.
