He is holding her with both hands. Sherwood is wearing a tweed suit jacket over a striped shirt with a dark tie. There is a wedding band on the ring finger of his left hand. Molly is wearing a white dress and stockings.

Therefore the picture was probably taken in late 1923.
Cataloging worksheet in object file states the following: "Sherwood attended West Point and was a professional soldier. During WW I he was a Brigadier General and was given the Distinguished Service Medal and the Croix de Guerre. He was married before he went to China in 1921, his wife died around a year after her daughter was born."
