DescriptionThree-quarter-length portrait of a young woman standing in the interior of a room. She wears a dress with short, tight sleeves with lace cuffs and a V-shaped waistline. A rose is pinned at the center of the neckline. In her right hand, she holds a small bouquet of flowers. In her left hand she holds a letter sealed with sealing wax. Drapery tied back with a cord is in the left background; a lace-edged curtain is at the right. The view through the window in the right background includes a man with a cane and top hat walking along a path between grassy lawns. A fence, trees, hills, and a lake are in the distance.
