DescriptionWoman's cape of light blue, twill-woven, heavily fulled wool. The cape has a 2 5/8-inch-wide collar which may have been meant to stand up or turn down, depending on the desire of the wearer, as it is decorated on both sides with narrow gray wool braid and silver braid soutache laid in tightly packed foliate designs. A 7 1/4-inch-deep shoulder cape is attached below the collar. It is also decorated with the soutache braids and edged with silver-gray silk fringe. This same soutache and fringe edge the center front opening on both sides and continue around the bottom. The opening fastens with hooks and eyes. The cape is box-pleated into the neck seam under the shoulder cape and is gathered over the shoulders. Both layers of the cape are lined with dark gray silk satin, except around the upper back and chest, which are lined with fine, light gray silk.
