DescriptionPortrait painting of Martha Leeds Silliman (Mrs. Joseph Silliman), attributed to Nathaniel F. Wales, who painted the portrait of her husband (1968.46.1). Silliman is wearing a dark bodice with either a lace undergarment showing at the neckline or a lace piece attached to the neckline. There is a lace ruff around her neck. She is wearing a lacy bonnet trimmed with a white silk ribbon. Small curls of dark hair fall onto her forehead; the rest of her hair is covered with the bonnet.
