DescriptionJapanese kimono of fine, black wool printed around the bottom with a deep border design of men in a boat, a crane, calligraphic figures, and other Oriental motifs against a background of red and black scallops. The kimono is constructed of a long, rectangular piece of fabric folded in half, creating the shoulderline. The center front is cut for an opening and edged with a 2 3/8-inch-wide band which is resist-printed with calligraphic designs. The kimono is stitched up the sides, leaving an opening to set in the straight, wide sleeves. A strip of red cotton faces the inside of the sleeve opening. The kimono is lined across the back of the shoulders with orange cotton.
