DescriptionPortrait of a young man painted on a square canvas in an oval. He stands turned to the left. His brown hair is long. He wears a maroon colored, high necked vest or jacket with ornamental buttons on the front and on the sleeve cuffs, both of which are a dark material. Over it, he wears a brown coat held together by a large button; the front edge, pocket lapel, and cuff on the short sleeve showing darker button holes or slashes, and buttons.

Both arms are slightly extended, his left arm raised so that his extended index finger points to an open window, through which the sea is visible, with a ship towing a small boat and another ship in the distance.
