DescriptionWoman's Hat (.a): Woman's natural straw hat with a black grosgrain ribbon, hat band, and large-holed black netting. The brim is about 2 3/4 inches-wide, dipping down at the front of the crown to a wire edge. The brim narrows to 2 3/8 inches towards the back, then widens to three inches at center back. The crown rises 2 5/8 inches from the brim, sinking down at its slightly oval-shaped top. The top of the crown is heat-pressed and shaped. Wide (2 1/8 inches) grosgrain ribbon encircles the crown and is folded into a half-bow at the back, with notched ties flowing down the center back of the brim. The large-holed netting is stitched under the hat band to the grosgrain decorations at the back. The netting falls over most of the brim and would cover the wearer's face. An elastic cord, stitched to the inner grosgrain band, is meant to be placed under the hair at the back of the head.

Box and Lid (.b): The round cardboard lid (.a) is deep red with black edging and lettering in its center. The round cardboard bottom (.b) has a speckled design of black and tan paper, reminiscent of alligator skin. The bottom of the box is the same deep red as the top. Black cotton ties.
