DescriptionDesigns for a stone Gothic revival church include front elevations, rear elevations, side elevations, longitudinal sections, main floor plans, basement plans, heating plans, and details of window frames. Some drawings include the locations of the baptistery, boiler room, confessionals, chapels, closets, a coatroom, kitchen, lobby, narthex, nave, sacristy, and social hall with chairs. Construction plans indicate the use of steel trusses.

InscribedOn recto, 2003.29.13.15-23 are inscribed in pencil, lower center, "PRELIMINARY SKETCHES FOR / ST. JOSEPH'S R.C. CHURCH - CANAAN, CT. / REV. DANIEL J. MANNING, PASTOR." "Scale 1/8 inch equals one foot." Other inscriptions indicate parts of building, dimensions, and materials.
On verso, all drawings have accession number inscribed in pencil, lower right.
NotesSubject Note: John J. McMahon did not receive the commission for this church. The building was built by another architect. McMahon must have thought he would get the job, since he completed nearly a full set of drawings. (Information provided by Joseph J. McMahon, 5/30/2003)
