DescriptionYoung girl's dress of white cotton, with a wide, square neckline bound with self-fabric and inserted with a white silk tape drawstring. The edge of the binding is piped. The bodice is gathered vertically from the neckline to the high waistline. The short sleeves are very full; they are gathered into the shoulder and into the narrow band of the sleeve opening, with the fullness concentrated across the top of the arm. The armscye is piped. The waistband is 1 1/8 inch wide and is edged with piping. The skirt is gathered all around the waist. The lower skirt is decorated with two deep tucks and an embroidered and scalloped border. The openwork of the stylized floral design is filled with fine net. The center back opening extends eight inches and fastens with hooks and eyes (there are thread eyes as well as metal eyes, indicating that there has been an alteration here) at the waistband and neckline.
