DescriptionGirl's dress of calico, printed in a madder red and brown geometric design on a tan background pattern. The dress is constructed with a yoke and a ruffled, turn-down collar. The front and back panels are gathered into the bottom of the yoke and fall straight to the hem. The fullness of the sleeves is controlled at the top of the arm by stitching down the narrow pleats with two rows of chain stitching. A similar treatment is applied to the sleeve fullness at the back of the wrist. The sleeve ends in a 1 1/4-inch-wide cuff which fastens with two brass hooks and thread eyes. The collar edge, yoke edge, armscye, underarm seam, and sleeve cuffs are piped. The dress opens at center front for 9 3/4 inches (though the seam has pulled apart beyond this point). Two 5/8-inch-wide tucks are taken above the hem around the bottom of the skirt.

NotesHistorical Note: Deercliff Manor in West Hartford, Connecticut, belonged to Richard S. Ely, who left it to his daughter, Maude D. Ely. She married John Gibbons, a superintendent of Annapolis. It is believed that they never had any children. Maude D. E. Gibbons left the house to her first cousin, Graham Jones, Sr, for live use. His son, Graham Jones, Jr. sold it to Arnold Chase and Richard Gordon.
