DescriptionA young man wearing a plaid kilt, plaid jacket, plaid stocking with garters, a shirt, a plaid necktie, and a cap with three feathers stands on a bluff above a broad river. A powder horn hangs from his shoulder. A knife with a deer horn handle and a fur pouch hang from his belt. He holds a small horn in his upraised right hand and a musket in the crook of his left arm. A large dead deer lies immediately to the right. A large dog stands behind it. A tree is in the right background. A thistle in flower is in the left foreground. The river runs through a deep ravine and over rocks in the right background.
