DescriptionView of a small city located on the side of a hill overlooking the confluence of two rivers. A wooden covered bridge on stone piers spans the river in the foreground. Steam issues from the smokestack of a locomotive drawing a series of open cars, apparently loaded with coal, across the bridge in the left foreground. A second bridge spans the river in the left background. Many small rocky islands are in the river. Several people watch two horses draw a barge along a canal in the right foreground. A lock and several small buildings are at the far right. Buildings in the town include what appears to be a factory with a smokestack and a large Gothic revival church.
