DescriptionTwo girls run across the basin of a frozen fountain pulling between them a young boy, who is crouched and slides on the ice. The girls wear skirts with separate bodices, shawls, and caps or scarves of what appears to be printed cotton. The girl on the right also wears gloves with open fingers, an apron, and striped stockings. The boy wears a coat with a fur collar and cuffs, a vest, a shirt with a lace collar and cuffs, and trousers. In the left background is a sculpture of three nude people and a dolphin. Icicles hang from the basin above the figures. Two men, one holding a shovel, the other holding a broom, are in the background beyond the fountain. A large building, probably a palace or country house, is beyond a wall in the left background. A garden pavilion with Corinthian columns and a sculptured frieze is in the right background, near a grove of leafless trees. Snow is on the ground.
