DescriptionSix men stand on a large block of granite in a stone quarry. Two men wear suits and hats. The other men wear work clothes and caps. The granite block is supported on heavy timbers resting on tracks. Quarry machinery is visible at the left and right.

According to the article, the photograph was taken by Deputy Chief Engineer John T. Henderson in he Norcross Quarries in Stony Creek, Connecticut. The men in the photograph include William Dodds, who inspected all the cut stone for the bridge, and J. J. Dwyer, the quarry inspector. The stone measured ten by eighteen by five feet and was to bear the tablet at the west approach to the Bulkeley Bridge, then under construction in Hartford.
