DescriptionThree men stand beside a landing on the Connecticut River. They wear straw hats and suits or pants and white shirts. A large hound dog sits between them. A derrick with a block and tackle for hoisting granite blocks is at the right. A railway with a truck near its upper end runs down the slope to the shore. Blocks of broken stone are piled in the foreground and along the tracks.

NotesSubject Note: The Connecticut River Granite Company had offices in New York City. The company was dissolved in 1898. No reference to the company appears in the Hartford Courant; the business was either short-lived or did not have quarries in Connecticut.
