DescriptionPortrait of a young girl facing slightly right, wearing a low-necked, reddish colored dress. The bodice and three-quarter-length sleeves have elaborate gilt lace trimming. Her left arm is raised and holds two flowers. Her right arm is laid across her waist, and she holds a fan in her right hand.

Inscribed"1698" at lower right.NotesSubject Note: Jane Ellery (1691-1739) was the daughter of Captain John Ellery and his second wife, Mary Clark Bonner, of Boston, Massachusetts. Jane was taken to London when she was seven, where she caught smallpox. She survived, and grew up to marry Captain John Ellery (1681-1742) in Boston on 31 August 1710.
