DescriptionPair of man's dark brown or black corduroy breeches. They have a fly front which fastens with five gutta percha buttons; a tab extending behind the fly buttons on the proper left side. The waistband has six buttons for attaching suspenders. Black velvet ribbon has been added to create four belt loops. The center back of the breeches is open for two inches. The breeches have been made larger by letting out the center back seam. A self-fabric tab and buckle at center back below the waistline adjusts the fit. There is one slashed pocket in back of the right hip. The lower legs are open for three inches up the side seam; this closes with two self-covered buttons (one is actually non-functioning). A strip of black velvet with a stamped brass buckle has been added to give a "colonial" look. An additional black plastic or gutta percha button is stitched by the back of the knee opening; its purpose is unclear. A patch of black velvet has been roughly sewn inside the right side of the waist to create a pocket. The waist lining, fly lining, and pocket bag are made of brown twill-woven cotton.
